Bhubaneswar, Sep 22:
Activists of Talk Bhubaneswar, a group of like-minded people in the capital city, on Sunday organised a ‘Quit Tobacco’ rally in collaboration with students of Institute of Management and Information Science (IMIS).
The rally, which originated from Master Canteen Square and culminated at Big Bazar near Ram Mandir Square, was inaugurated by police commissioner Dr RP Sharma.
Holding banners and placards with the message ‘Only You Can Stop Substance Abuse’, the members of the group distributed leaflets containing anti-tobacco message among the people.
“The aim of the rally was to create awareness among people about the need to quit tobacco and request the government to ban its manufacture and sale for the welfare of the society”, said Geeta Besara, Project Coordinator of the campaign.
Praising the initiative of the activists, Dr Sharma said the police were keeping a close watch on the sale and manufacture of tobacco in the city.
