Bhubaneswar, Jan 29:
Property worth Rs 12 crore and yet no vehicle! Hard to believe? Well, that is what former minister Ananga Uday Singhdeo has claimed in his property statement filed with his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. As per statement, the scion of the Balangir royal family does not have a vehicle even in his wife’s name.
Interestingly, the vehicle-less Singhdeo is the richest among the five party backed candidates who have filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha polls with assets worth Rs 11.58 crores. Even more curiously, the candidate with the least assets among the five, Textiles minister Sarojini Hembram, has as many as three vehicles in her name. Her total property, including property owned by her husband, is worth Rs 1. 13 crore.
Ranjib Biswal has emerged as he second richest among the five party candidates with total assets worth about Rs 5 crores, including three luxury vehicles – a BMW, an Audi and a Frd Endeavor – together worth about Rs 1 crore.
BJD-backed independent candidate Padma Bibhushan Rgahunath Mohapatra and Panchayati Raj minister Kalpataru Das come next with property worth Rs 3.91 and Rs 2.85 crores respectively. While Mohapatra has an Innova car, Das owns a Mahindra SUV.
