Pregnant woman carried in sling for 4 km amid rain in Odisha

Nabarangpur: Deteriorated road condition in remote areas continues to affect ambulance services in Odisha as a pregnant woman of Pahnarikumuda village under Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district was carried in a sling amid rainfall last night as ambulance couldn’t reach the village.

Moreover, she gave birth to a baby boy mid-way.

According to reports, Raju Santa’s wife Kalabati complained of labour pain last night following which her family members called ambulance to carry her to hospital.

However, the ambulance couldn’t reach the village due to deteriorated road condition, which had further worsened due to incessant rainfall. The vehicle remained 4 km away from the village and was unable to proceed ahead.

Left with no other option, some villagers carried the woman in a sling for 4 km amid rain. However, she delivered a baby boy on the way.

The woman was later carried by the ambulance to Umerlote hospital, where the condition of the newborn and the mother is stated to be stable.
