Bhubaneswar, Mar 24:
The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) today announced an across the board hike in electricity tariff in the state.
In the tariff announced for the 2015-16 year, the regulator raised tariff for domestic category consumers by 20 paise per unit while hiking tariff for electricity for the farming sector by 40 paise per unit, the first hike in 15 years.
“The Commission was forced to resort to a tariff hike due to a steep rise in coal prices and the Central Electric Regulatory Commission (CERC) directive to increase tariff,” informed OERC secretary G K Dhal.
In comparison to the 2014-15 fiscal, there has been a hike of 4.64 percent in the average retail supply tariff.
However monthly minimum charges and meter charges remain unchanged.
