Water tax in nine Odisha cities for getting drinking water under the AMRUT yojna will be soon collected in post offices, according to a top public health department official.
The public health department will soon sign an MOU with the Department of Posts for distribution of water bills and its collection in post offices in nine citites selected under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) programme.
The public health department supplies drinking water to 2,72,292 persons in nine cities in Odisha. A proper collection of water and sewerage tax could enrich the exchequer by Rs 5 crore, said the top official.
Even though the department has established 43 online counters for generation, distribution and collection, but due to a crunch in the human resource neither the bills are properly generated nor distributed.
The public health department after generating the bills will send them to the respective local post offices. By the 10th of every month the postal employees will distribute the bills to the consumers and they can pay their water bills in the post office.
