Bhubaneswar, Dec 17:
While politics over the mysterious death of a student and resignation of Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena is gaining high decibel, the family members of the deceased Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi today demanded reopening of the case ensuring proper probe into the death few months ago in Odisha capital.
“My son might not have taken drugs; his roommates might have given him. I am saying so on the basis of suspicion. My son has been murdered hence want the perpetrators to be apprehended,” Rishi’s mother Pritirani Mohanty demanded.
When asked about the much-talked about the controversial sex video featuring an alleged look-alike of Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, she said: “We cannot comment on the authenticity of the CD aired on television. The CD could be the reason behind Rishi’s murder. Investigation would unravel the truth behind the allegations.
The deceased’s sister also echoed similar sentiments on the matter.
“If it is suspected that it could be due to love matter then it should be investigated. The girl’s statement should be recorded. Besides, Nanda should be interrogated. They can better explain what happened on that day. We were told that he died after doing drugs. We are prepared to go to Commissionerate Police to demand for reopening of the case to bring the culprits to books,” deceased’s sister Sonali Mohanty demanded.
On the other hand, Opposition Congress and BJP today hit the streets demanding resignation of city Mayor over the sex tape issue.
“Chief Minister should direct him to resign and I urge the police to initiate proper probe to maintain its image. As murder is alleged, we want Chief Minister to order a CBI probe,” senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati said.
Members of Congress party today took out a rally from Congress Bhawan here demanding Mayor’s resignation. They clashed with police at Master Canteen Square when the cops prevented them to march forward. The activists burnt effigy of Chief Minister and Mayor this evening.
The BJP members too took out protest rallies in the capital city demanding his ouster.
“Chief Minister should supend the Mayor immediately without any delay and direct the police to investigate the sex video to unravel the murder mystery,” BJP leader Pradeep Purohit demanded.
Predictably, the party came in the defence of the beleaguered leader.
“The allegations are not based on truth. It is baseless, concocted and deliberate attempt to malign him. Some envious people have done this as Bhubaneswar has topped the Smart City list. As he has taken legal recourse, lets wait for the verdict,” expressed BJD MLA Ashok Chandra Panda.
