Cuttack, May 10:
Alleging the failure of the Odisha government and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in providing adequate security in the 12th century Hindu shrine, senior advocate Chittaranjan Mohanty has filed a PIL in the Odisha High Court.
The petitioner has stated that the century old temple is a target of the terrorists due to lack of foolproof security arrangements by the state government and the SJTA.
Along with the PIL, Mohanty has also attached newspaper clippings on how foreign tourists have managed to shoot the aerial view of the temple and uploaded it in the social media.
He has urged the High Court to intervene and direct the state government and other stakeholders to take necessary measures to protect the historical monument.
Drawing the attention of the court to the failure of the temple administration in disciplining the priests and servitors of the temple who have been harassing the devotees and visitors, the petitioner said the right to free profession, practice and propagation of religion guaranteed under Article 25 of the Constitution is thus being violated.
