In view of shortage of doctors across the country, the Centre has decided to increase the PG seats in the government medical colleges in the states including Odisha.

In a letter to Odisha government, the Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry has asked to provide detailed data about faculties by Feb 15.

Following recent visit of the Health Ministry officials to different states including Odisha and discussion with state secretary and Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) through video conferencing on Jan 24, another notification has been issued on Jan 31.

Notably, there are around 288 PG seats in different medical colleges of Odisha. Around 162 seats (6 each in medicine, surgery, gynecology departments and 4 each in other clinical departments) proposed to be increased in three state-run medical colleges of Odisha.
