Bhubaneswar, May 19 :
In a self-destructive and pathetic move, the rejected leadership of the Odisha Congress is reportedly trying its very best to prevent the veteran party leader Narasingha Mishra, who won from the Bolangir assembly seat despite desperate efforts by the ruling BJD to prevent his entry into the state legislature, from becoming the Leader of Opposition.
According to reports, the PCC chief Jayadev Jena is allegedly backing party MLA Chiranjib Biswal, who has won from the Jagatsinghpur Assembly seat, for the post of Leader of Opposition in the House apparently because he is ‘better suited’ to hold that position !
Insiders in the party say, the discredited leadership of the state Congress is all set to strike a compromise with the ruling BJD by ensuring the tough-talking and erudite leader like Narasingha Mishra is denied any opportunity to corner the treasury bench in the House.
Mishra, who is perhaps one of the most respected leaders in the Odisha Congress all these years, is now being painted as an outsider and someone who lacks the ability to carry the legislature party with him by none other than the top PCC leaders, sources told OST.
Senior Congress leaders say Mishra is the best leader in the 16-member legislature party to take on the Naveen government and feel Chiranjib is a poor match when it comes to playing the role of the Opposition leader in the House.
While the Central leadership of the party is likely to take a final call in the matter, senior leaders of the party say, the fact that the state leadership is even looking for someone other than Narasingha Mishra for the post, is ” ample evidence of their petty and narrow thinking that has led to the virtual decimation of the party in the elections’.
