Angul, Aug 20:
A part-time employee of the bank was arrested today in connection with the burglary of over Rs 14 lakh in cash from the locker of the Neelachal Gramya Bank branch at Patrapada under Chhendipada police station on Sunday night.
Over 11 lakh of the looted cash was also recovered based on the information given by the accused during interrogation, police said.
“We arrested Sudhansu Dehury, a temporary employee of the bank, after he confessed to his crime during interrogation,” Chhendipada inspector-in-charge (IIC) Himanshu Swain said. Dehury, who had been taken into custody yesterday, was forwarded to the court today.
Rs 11, 40, 540 out of the Rs 14, 09, 017 cash burgled from the bank vault were recovered from under a bush near a pond at the back of the bank, Swain said.
Gadadhar Dehury, the branch manager of the bank, had filed an FIR with Chhendipada police after bank staff found the back door broken and the locker broken open when they opened the bank yesterday morning.
