Kendrapara, May 21:
Panic gripped the district headquarter town of Kendrapara in Odisha after a quake of high intensity shook the place for about 10 seconds at 9.58 PM tonight.
Wall and roofs of some pucca houses in the town have developed cracks. However, no casualty or major damage have been reported so far.
“I was watching the IPL match. Suddenly the chair shook. I ran out of the house”, said a scared looking Bijoy Das, a local resident.
“We were in the house. We were jolted as the doors and windows, cots and every furniture in the house started shaking violently. We were all terrified”, said Sashmita Tripathy, a homemaker.
Panic-stricken people have moved out of their houses to stay outdoors fearing further tremors.
Similar tremors were felt in adjoining Paradip and Jagatsinghpur.
Residents of seaside villages of both the districts are a scared lot. They apprehend a tsunami strike despite assurances by the authorities over television and radio that there is no such possibility.
