The inter-departmental committee on mines has recommended the reopening of seven more mines in the state, Odisha Steel and Mines minister Prafulla Mallick revealed here today.
The committee has recommended to the government signing of additional lease deeds for these mines. The decision will take effect after getting the nod of the Chief Minister, Mallick said.
As per information provided by Minister Mallick, based on the recommendation of the inter-departmental committee that met on July 8, seven out of the eight mines would reopen under the provisions of the amended Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015.
“Out of the 29 mines the Union Government approved based on the recommendation of our department, 21 mines have already signed their lease deeds. The state has earned Rs 895 crores from these deals. Out of the eight remaining mines, two have sought for time extension and we have allowed them two months time. The rest six have not applied for the extension yet,” said the Mines Minister.
