“Outreach’, an Odisha based not-for-profit organisation committed to the promotion of radio, is organising a gathering of radio professional here tomorrow to commemorate the first radio broadcast in India.
The first radio broadcast in the country was by Bombay Radio Club on July 23, 1927.
The programme will be held at Red Cross Bhavan and start at 6.30 pm sharp, the organisers said.
Radio professionals from Community Radio, All India Radio (AIR), Private FM stations and Internet Radios will participate in the programme the highlight of which will be a seminar on the topic: ‘Private Radio News: Why not?’
Among those scheduled to speak at the seminar are Founder of Radio Choklate Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik, Director All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack Dr Shantanu Rath and Director (News) of Doordarshan Kendra, Bhubaneswar Akhila Mishra.
“It will be an occasion to bring the spotlight back on radio, which is witnessing a revival of sorts after being out of favour for a while due to the onslaught of television,” said Subrat Pati, President of ‘Outreach’, better known as RJ Subrat.
In February this year, ‘Outreach’ organised the first-ever Radio Fair at Bbhanja Kala Mandap here.
