Bhubaneswar, Jul 5:
With shocking facts and figures out in open after the first Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 was released on Friday, the opposition parties today trained their guns on the Odisha Government.
“If you carefully analyze the report, it will show you that the state is going through acute poverty. Unfortunately, the state government is busy blowing its trumpet rather than working on the issues at hand. If you take a look at the kind of schemes the government is coming up with, they would only take the Odia race down with them and turn the Odias into freebie seekers (‘CHHATARA KHIA’ is what he said.),” said Senior BJP leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan.
Former Finance Minister Panchanan Kanungo was equally dismissive of the government’s development plan.
“There is no point talking about the success and failure of the plans of a state that doesn’t have a planning board or any plans in the first place. The government is spending without a plan. With specific plans on hand and proper monitoring of implementation, things wouldn’t be this disastrous,” said Kanungo.
Ruling BJD, however, didn’t seem to give much importance to the report or the criticism by the opposition and blamed it all on politics.
“The condition of the state has changed over time and the state is now much stronger financially. BJP is commenting on everything as it knows it has a weak political base here. They didn’t get votes with their free tea, Narendra Modi and all that they could have tried. It managed to win only one out of the 21 seats. Now, it wants to make a lot of noise to get attention and strengthen its cadre. The Union Government is also targeting the State Government,” said BJD Vice President and Cooperation Minister Damodar Rout.
