To help Odissi achieve a wider global recognition, a dance centre will open at the Oxford University in United Kingdom from January next year.
The centre to be known as Oxford Odissi Centre, besides holding regular Odissi dance classes for members of Oxford University, will also conduct Odissi workshops at other world-renowned institutions including University of Cambridge, London School of Economics, University College London (UCL), King’s College London (KCL), University of Manchester and University of Edinburgh among others.
Classes and workshops will be conducted by the centre’s founder-director Baisali Mohanty who is recognised as one of the most promising young dancers of India with over 15 years of performance in India and abroad. She has been trained by renowned Odissi teacher Padmashree Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and received advance training in choreography from Padmashree Guru Ileana Citaristi.
The centre to be known as Oxford Odissi Centre is an initiative of Baisali Mohanty, a Master’s Degree student in International Studies at the Oxford University.
The center will open on January 16 next year, Baisli Mohanty made a formal announcement at a charity event at Oxford University’s historic Corpus Christi Hall recently.
