Odisha’s former OTDC chief designated UN Messenger of Peace


Balasore: Jyotiskar Mohapatra, former chairman of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), has been appointed as the United Nations (UN) Messenger of Peace for his contribution towards establishing peace.

Mohapatra, the youngest son of former Balasore MP Shyam Sundar Mohapatra and eminent social activist Radha Devi, became the first from Odisha to have been bestowed with UN Messenger of Peace title.

He was honoured during a ceremony held by UN and Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) at Seoul on September 29. Several political leaders, country heads and dignitaries from 136 countries had graced the event chaired by UN Deputy Secretary-General. Tuvalu’s Governor General Iakoba Italeli presented the title to Mohapatra during the ceremony.

Earlier, Mohapatra was sacked from chairman post in OTDC for his alleged closeness to ruling BJD’s former strategist and MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra.
