Rourkela: A youth was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people after he created ruckus during a wedding at Jagdishpur village under Kuarmunda police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district last night.

According to reports, Albat Ekka (22) of Guniguni village, the deceased, had an one-sided love affair with a girl of Jagdishpur. Eight days ago, he had expressed his wish before the girl’s parents to marry her.

However, his proposal was rejected by girl’s family members and her marriage was fixed with another youth.

While the wedding was underway last night, Ekka reached the spot and created ruckus demanding cancellation of the marriage following which the kin of the girl and several locals reportedly thrashed him to death.

A complaint has been lodged at the Kuarmunda police station in connection with the death. Police have started investigation into the incident.
