Puri, Dec 10:
A local court here today allowed shifting of the prime accused in Puri train arson case to a jail here and all cases to Odisha capital.
Puri court today granted the accused Ramachandran Subhas to be shifted to Jharpada Special Jail and the trial will continue at Khurda District and Sessions Judge Court.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) had moved the Puri Court citing security concerns and smooth conduct of investigations.
The case has now been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the Odisha Government following his suspected terror outfit links.
GRP (Government Railway Police), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Natiional Investigating Agency (NIA) and State Intelligence Wing (SIW) had grilled him on separate occasions. However, the investigating teams recorded incoherence in his statements following which they approached the court for polygraph test on the accused.
Earlier on November 21, the Puri SDJM (Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate) court had allowed the GRP to conduct polygraph test of Ramachandran.
The court had earlier allowed GRP to take Subhash on six, three and again six-day remand on November 18, November 27 and December 2 respectively for further interrogation. He was sent to Puri Jail after his remand ended on December 7.
It may be recalled that a major fire had broke out at Puri Station on November 12, in which two coaches – each of Nandankanan Express, Tirupati Express and one coach of Puri-Howrah Express – were reduced to ashes even though there were no casualties. Moments later, Ramachandran was arrested from the spot with a knife, a blade and a match box.
