Bhubaneswar: Aiming to eradicate measles and control rubella virus by the year 2020, Odisha government is all set to launch a vaccination campaign from January next year.
This is the first event major campaign against the deadly virus like measles and rubella in the state.
The Health Secretary has written to various organisations including Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Lions International Odisha to make the campaign successful across the state.
Under the programme, children between the age group of 9 months and 15 years old will be vaccinated. The government aims 100% vaccination of all the children during the campaign.
While the vaccination programme will be held both in government and private schools in first two weeks, subsequently the campaign will be organized in community level in next two weeks. The vaccination programme will be held at anganwadi centres and health centres. The children, who might have skipped the programme in last four weeks, will be vaccinated in the last week.
The pediatricians under Indian Association of Pediatrics have been asked to inform their patients regarding the vaccination campaign. They have also been urged to make people aware of the progarmme for measles and rubella virus eradication through posters at their respective hospitals and clinics.
Besides, the pediatricians working with the private hospitals have been asked to participate at the state level and district level awareness workshops to be organised by the government.
The Health secretary in his letter has asked the IMA to inform their patients about the vaccination programme. The Lions International is also expected to participate in state and district task force committee meetings for discussion about the programme.
