Soro, Mar 1:
Odisha’s popular television actor Pralipta Priayadarshini Samal alias Jessy who was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide of actor Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja was released from Soro Sub Jail this evening on bail after Balasore District and Sessions Judge Court earlier in the day granted her conditional bail.
The court, in its order, asked the petitioner to furnish a bail bond of Rs 20, 000 and two sureties. Besides, the court directed her to cooperate in the investigation process and not influence witnesses.
Jessy, who was lodged in Soro Sub Jail as an under trial prisoner since last 15 days was welcomed by her father and other relatives who were waiting outside the jail.
On being asked by reporters on whether she would act in television soap operas, the actor said she would think over it.
“I was inside the jail I have no idea about the television serials. I am not sure whether I will act in serials or not. I have been released. Will see what I will do or not do,” said Jessy answering queries of reporters waiting outside the jail.
Replying to a query on her reactions after her 15 day stay in the jail the actor said: “Obviously I will say that I am innocent. Had I not been innocent probably I would not have been granted bail so early. I am still waiting for a proper investigation and I am hopeful whatever decision will be taken will be the right decision.”
Jessy was produced before SDJM court in Soro after her 15-day judicial custody ended on Monday. She was again sent to 14-day further judicial custody.
It may be recalled that she was sent to judicial custody after her bail plea was rejected by the SDJM court in Soro on February 16 following her arrest the same day.
The telly actor was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide of actor Ranjit Patnaik alias Raja on February 16. Section 306 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was slapped against her.
It may be further recalled that Raja, Jessy and event coordinator Pralay Jena along with driver Pralay Behera had gone to attend an event in Balasore district.
While returning after performing in a stage show by Kalinga Kanya Gananatya at Taranka Tipisigadia under Makhanpur panchayat under Khaira block in Balasore district, Raja fell off a bridge near Chaparpada over river Kansa Bansa in Balasore district.
Initially, he was rushed to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
