Baripada: While teachers are supposed to act as preachers of unity and brotherhood in society, an unfortunate incident has come to fore in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district contradicting the ideology.

According to reports, Headmistress of Budhikhamari primary school at Baripada town in the district, Tilottama Panda allegedly sprinkles cow dung water and tulsi water on her if dalit students touch her.

“She (the headmistress) sprinkles cow dung water and tulsi water on her if our hand gets touched to her’s while handing over note copy to her. She also tells us to maintain distance from her after submitting note copies on table,” a girl student said.

On the other hand, Panda has rubbished the allegations.

“The allegations are false and baseless. Someone has incited the students to do so,” she said.

Protesting the incident, the students and their guardians staged agitation in front of the school today.
