Olympian and ace sprinter Srabani Nanda has been selected to receive the 24th Ekalabya Award instituted by Odisha-based Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT).
IMPaCT, the charitable wing of IMFA Group, today made it public about the recipient of this year’s prestigious award.
Srabani has a brilliant national and international track record. Among her recent achievements include gold medal in 200m, silver in 100m and 4x100m relay in 12th South Asian Games, held at Guwahati during Feb 2016. She has also won bronze in 100m and 4x100m relay in Asian Grand Prix Athletics at Thailand in June 2015.
Besides Srabani, hockey stars Deep Grace Ekka and Dipsan Tirkey will also be felicitated with citation awards.
“IMPaCT has been in continuous pursuit to recognize and foster excellence in sports and literature besides contributing to the general welfare of the society at large. Ekalabya award is instituted to encourage and inspire young sports persons to perform at national and international arena,” Kendrapara MP and Trustee of IMPaCT Baijayant Panda said while announcing the names of the award winners.
Last year, Dutee Chand had won the Ekalabya Award.
Ekalabya Puraskar is the annual sports award for outstanding young sportsperson of Odisha which carries a cash prize of Rs. 500,000 (Rupees five lakh). Besides the main award, two citation awards are also given which carry cash prize of Rs. 50,000 (Rupees fifty thousand only) each.
The award is conferred upon young sportspersons of Odisha every year in recognition of their outstanding performances in the preceding two years.
Previous winners of this prestigious award include former Indian Hockey captain Dillip Tirkey, Probodh Tirkey, Ignace Tirkey, William Xalxo, International cricketer Debashish Mohanty, Shib Sundar Das, athlete Anuradha Biswal, weightlifter K Ravi Kumar, chess player Padmini Rout, Kiran Manisha Mohanty, Debashis Das and shooter Shreyanka Sarangi.
