Several journalist bodies in Odisha have reacted strongly to the brutal murder of the 35-year old journalist Tarun Acharya,who worked as a stringer for a local television channel, at Khallikote on Tuesday night.
The Odisha Union of Journalists (OUJ), in a press release, demanded a CBI probe into Tarun’s murder and payment of Rs 50 lakh to his family.
Similarly, the Bhubaneswar District Journalist Association while condemning the incident has demanded compensation for the deceased journalist’s family.
Several journalists both from the electronic and print media who had gathered here in front of Soochana Bhawan demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Senior journalist Prasanta Patnaik and member of the presidium of the Media Unity for Freedom of Press ( MUFP) condemned the incident and demanded a top level probe into the murder as well as compensation to Acharya’s family.
The brutal murder of the young journalist has evoked strong reactions from the Balipatna Press Club. The Club, while condemning the incident in strong words, has demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Similarly, the murder of the Khallikote young journalist has been condemned by the members of the Barang Press Club who also expressed concern over the rising number of cases of attacks on journalists.
