Puri, May 25 :
Internationally acclaimed Odisha sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik today created an impressive joint image of India’s Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in sand, with the message ” Peace gets a chance’, on the Puri beach.
Speaking to media persons after completing the sand sculpture, Pattnaik said the Pakistan Prime Minister visiting India on the invitation of the Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi, is a significant event for both countries.
” I would like to congratulate Modi ji for his great gesture to invite the Pakistan Prime minister on the day he would take charge of a newly elected government that has received a huge mandate. We all hope it will pave the way for healthy relations between the two countries and contribute to confidence building on both sides,” Pattnaik told OST.
Sudarsan used 5 tons of sand and spent four hours to create the 5ft tall sand sculpture with the portraits of the two prime ministers set against the national flags of respective countries .
Sudarsan, who was invited to the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month to display his sand art, has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships and festivals around the world and won many prizes for the country.
He was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the government of India earlier this year.
