The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha would oppose the Land Acquisition Bill proposed by the Centre during the monsoon session of the Parliament beginning tomorrow.
Briefing newsmen after attending a meeting convened by the party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here today, MP Bhartruhari Mahatab said his party would reiterate its demand for inclusion of the people losing their land as stakeholders in the proposed project that would come up in their land.
Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda said his party would raise its voice for the welfare of the people of Odisha.
Out of a total of 20 Lok Sabha MPs and seven Rajya Sabha members, four – Kalpataru Das, Sarojini Hembram, Anubhav Mohanty and Sidhant Mohapatra—were absent in the meeting.
Besides, Rajya Sabha member Baishnab Parida left the meeting midway to attend the Bhasa Sammilani meeting after taking the consent of the chief minister, sources in the party said.
