Bhubaneswar, Oct 1:
Nine days after taking over the investigation into the quadruple murder in Odisha’s Astaranga, the Crime Branch police is reliably learnt to have cracked the murder mystery with the arrest of a supari (contract) killer hired by one of the relatives of the deceased to eliminate the family in an effort to usurp its property.
Besides, the investigators have reportedly identified the mastermind and others involved in the spine-chilling crime.
According to sources, the contract killer was arrested from Paradeep. However, Crime Branch sleuths have refused to divulge the details on the ground that it could affect the course of the investigation.
The gruesome act has been executed with the help of supari killer by a relative of Dinabandhu.
He allegedly hatched the conspiracy to eliminate the Mallick family with an intention to usurp Dinabandhu’s property after his second wife became pregnant, sources said on condition of anonymity.
It may be recalled that Dinabandhu Mallick (65), a retired district inspector (DI) of schools, his wife Komodini Mallick (50) and two daughters were brutally killed on the night of September 21 at his home in Dinadiyan Nagar village under Astaranga police limits.
On Monday, incensed locals ransacked Astaranga tehsil office and locked up block and other government offices protesting against the tardy progress in the investigations by the Crime Branch police.
