Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday conferred the prestigious Biju Patnaik Award for the year 2013 on eminent scientist Prof Dr Gadadhar Mishra in recognition of his profound contribution in the field of Science.
Mishra received a cash award of Rs 2 lakh, a citation and a shawl at a function organized by the Odisha Bigyan Academy (OBA) at Jayadev Bhawan here.
An alumnus of Sambalpur University, Mishra presently works as the head of the department of Mathematics in the Indian Institute Science (IIS), Bengaluru.
Besides, the chief minister felicitated Dr Ramesh Chandra Ray, Prof Bidyadhar Subudhi and Dr Pradyumna Kumar Mishra with Samanta Chandrasekhar Award, Dr Alok Prasad Das, Dr Bikash Kumar Jena and Engineer Alok Tripathy with Young Scientist Award, and Mrs Archana Panigrahi and Sushree Nirmala Kumari Mohapatra with Pranakrushna Parija Popular Science Award.
He also felicitated five senior scientists–Prof Krushna Chandra Satpathy, Prof Amulya Kumar Panda, Prof Basudev Kar, Prof Sarat Chandra Panda and Prof Nimai Charan Mohapatra.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister urged the scientists to make the leading educational and research institutes of Odisha at par with international standards.
