New Delhi: The Central government is planning to introduce pre-paid smart meters for electricity consumers in the country soon.
Consumers will be required to pay first to recharge their pre-paid smart meters before using electricity.
Union Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh held discussions with his State counterparts in this regard today. The Union Minister also discussed the issue of providing electricity to all households under the Saubhaghya Scheme with State Power Ministers.
“We discussed on rural electrification and how each and every household will get electricity connection. In our State, almost all unelectrified villages will have electricity connections by the end of this month. The issue of installing pre-paid meters was also discussed in the meeting. We suggested for installing pre-paid meters under Saubhagya Scheme and all other schemes,” informed Odisha Energy Minister Prafulla Mallick, who was a participant at the conference of “Ministers for Power and New & Renewable Energy of States & Union Territories”.
