Bhubaneswar, Mar 9:
The price of potato is expected to rise, as the Odisha state tuber mission has failed to motivate the farmers. Unfavourable weather condition in the state has led to a 30 per cent decrease in the tuber production , according to Odisha food supplies and consumer welfare minister.
The current market price of potato has hiked from Rs 11 to Rs 18 and with the poor production the prices are expected to rise further.
Food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma held a meeting at the secretariat to discuss the issue on Tuesday.
He said that the potato production in the state has fallen down by 30 per cent because of unfavourable weather conditions.
The state government has directed district collectors to enforce Essential Commodities Act to curb hoarding and restrict price rise.
The State Potato Mission was launched in 2014 to boost tuber production in the state.
