Police today took Santosh Behera-one of the aides of arrested former Congress MLA from Sanakhemundi Ramesh Jena on a five-day remand for interrogation in connection with the illegal arms racket.
While the police had moved the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here on Friday seeking to take Santosh on a fresh seven-day remand, the court, however, on Saturday had allowed the police to take Santosh on a five-day remand.
On the basis of Santosh’s statements before the police during interrogation, two police teams have been despatched outside the district to dig out on Ramesh Jena’s criminal activities, police sources revealed.
Santosh is alleged to be key accused of illegal arms racket associated with the arrested MLA. He was arrested from Bhubaneswar and was taken on seven days police remand.
On the other hand, arrested Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) corporator R Murali Mohan and Ramesh’s father Arikhita were produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here today and were later sent to jail as their remand period ended.
