Bhubaneswar, Mar 16:
With the Twin City Commissionerate Police today hinting to bring the alleged stay of arrested former Congress MLA from Sanakhemundi Ramesh Jena and his accomplices arrested on charges of dacoity in the official quarters of Congress chief whip in the Odisha Assembly Tara Prasad Bahinipati with the purview of its investigations, it seems, is certainly going to spell trouble for the Congress legislator from Jeypore.
“How they (Ramesh Jena and his accomplices) were engaged criminal activities and business is all part of the investigation,” said Twin City Police Commissioner Y B Khurania briefing reporters here today.
On being specifically asked by reporters if the stay of Ramesh Jena and his accomplices in the official quarters of Bahinipati was going to be investigated Khurania said: “We will see. Investigations have just begun.”
Notably, former Congress MLA from Sanakhemundi Ramesh Jena arrested in a variety of criminal cases and his associates arrested for involvement in dacoity cases-Santosh Jena and Manoranjan Khatei had allegedly stayed in official quarters of Bahinipati (D/S 14/3).
The matter had come to light after Santosh Jena was arrested by the police in a dacoity case. Both Santosh and Manoranjan had mentioned address of Bahinipati’s official quarters as their address in identity cards issued to them by a karate school.
According to the police, Santosh and Manoranjan worked as aides in tender fixing and gun running business of Ramesh.
However, Bahinipati on Tuesday had told the media that the quarters was earlier allotted to Ramesh Jena before it was allotted to him. He said that the quarters was allotted to him a few months after he was elected MLA adding that he had never stayed in that house and had allowed Ramesh to stay in the same since he was earlier staying in it.
The identity cards seized from Santosh and Manoranjan were issued to them in 2015 by that time the quarters was allotted to Bahinipati.
