Balasore, Jul 15:
Odisha Police was attacked again today. This time the incident happened at Panisandha village under Bhograi Police limits in Balasore district while the cops were in the village to rescue a family.
Two ASIs, three constables and a driver, who were on the spot, were attacked by angry villagers and the ASIs sustained injuries on their head. All six injured cops have been shifted to Balasore District Headquarter hospital after preliminary treatment in Bhograi. The police jeep has also been damaged completely.
As per sources, tension erupted on May 14 when a woman and two kids died in a house in the village. Based on the complaint lodged by the family members of the woman, a murder case was lodged by the local police. All the male members of the house had been at large since the event.
The incident came to fore again after news broke that a male member of the house was back at the house yesterday night. The relatives of the deceased woman reached the house and demanded to get in.
On being refused, they roped in their fellow villagers and encircled the house. While the villagers were blocked out for the night, they forced themselves inside this morning. Some of the villagers allegedly misbehaved with the ladies of the house, ransacked the house and set fire to their clothes.
The cops arrived on the scene based on a phone call from an unknown source, further agitating the intruders. Some of them went on to attack the cops themselves injuring them.
The situation remains volatile and the protesting ladies have blocked the road with wooden logs and are squatting on the road.
While the local Sarpanch and local police tried to reach the place in an effort to persuade the agitators to get off the road, they have been unsuccessful in getting near them. Media personnel attempting to cover the scene were also driven out.
