A day after the boat capsize in Odisha’s Ganjam district, a top official of Chilika Development Authority (CDA) today blamed the boatman for the mishap.
A three-member team headed by Chief Executive of CDA P Krishna Mohan today made an on-spot inquiry into the incident which killed four persons including two infants. The fishing boat carrying 29 persons was on its way to Ghantasila from Sabulia.
The boat was overloaded which lead to the mishap. Besides, the boat had holes in it owing which water entered into it, P Krishna Mohan said.
Police today seized the ill-fated boat.
On the other hand, a case has been filed against the boatmen – Dutia Mallick and Bideshi Mallick – at Rambha police station under section 280 and 304 of IPC yesterday.
It may be mentioned here that most of the passengers hail from Sabolia village of Rambha block in the district. Sources said that the group were headed to Ghantasiala village for a picnic. However, it overturned about 2 km from the shore after losing balance.
As many as five persons rescued are now undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
