Panic gripped Khallikote town in Odisha’s Ganjam district following the brutal murder of a young journalist by some unidentified miscreants last night.
According to reports, 35-year old Tarun Kumar Acharya, a young local journalist working as a stringer for a television news channel, was attacked with sharp weapons by some miscreants at a lonely place near Khallikote police station and Excise office around 10.30 pm on Tuesday night while he was riding a motorcycle on his way to his home in Bikrampur, about 15 km away from Khallikote.
Local people passing by that road, found his body lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit open and informed the police.
Following information, several media persons and the police rushed to the spot.
The Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, town BJD president Narendra Patra and NAC councilors also reached the spot.
Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the killers. All the entry and exit points of the town have been sealed while police are checking all vehicles, the reports said.
The reason behind the murder of the young reporter or the identity of the assailants are not known yet.
