Odisha government today signed an agreement with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd for setting up of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Darlipalli in Sundargarh district.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Director of Technical Education and Training Balwant Singh and NTPC’s Regional Executive Director (East Region-II, Bhubaneswar) Arvind Kumar.

“I am happy to announce that Skill Development and Technical Education Department entered into an MoU with NTPC Ltd today for setting up of a new state-of-the-art polytechnic at Darlipalli in Sundargarh district. Earlier, NTPC had taken up establishment of a modern ITI at Seragarh, Ganjam and it shall start functioning from the next academic session. Consistent efforts have been made by my government to create an ecosystem for collaboration with industry to set up more such technical education institutions to hone the skills of our youth,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.

Notably, NTPC will pump in Rs 25 crore for infrastructure development of the institute. The skill development institute would offer diploma course in electrical engineering, mining engineering and instrumentation and controls engineering having an intake capacity of 60 seats each in respective streams.

“In order to meet the requirements of shop floor supervisory level workforce, efforts hae also been made in recent years to set up at least one government polytechnic in each district. I am sure this new institute will have all the modern infrastructure, equipment and best facilities for better skilling of youth in long run,” he said.

I also expect industry collaboration for creating employment opportunities for the youth through proactive approach towards industry exposure of trainees, apprenticeship, soft skill training programmes and campus recruitment drives, he added.

Employment And Technical Education & Training Minister Sanjay Das Burma, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and Chairman OSDA Subroto Bagchi were also present on the occasion.
