Bhubaneswar: An all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat today decided to constitute a House Committee to chalk out the strategy to be adopted by Odisha in its dispute with neighbouring Chhattisgarh over sharing of river Mahanadi water.

“We had a meeting in the Speaker’s chamber about the Mahanadi issue. We have decided that a House Committee will be formed about this problem,” informed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after the all-party meeting in the Speaker’s chamber.

Patnaik accused the Central government of having ceased to be neutral, in view of the stand taken by it in its submission before the Supreme Court yesterday on Odisha’s plea for constituting an interstate tribunal to resolve the dispute with Chhattisgarh over sharing of river Mahanadi water.

“What the Central government has done in the Supreme Court yesterday suggests that they are no longer neutral referee in this matter. So we will have further discussion with leaders of other parties to think of our future strategy,” the Chief Minister said.

Earlier, in the day, the Odisha Assembly witnessed ruckus over Centre’s unwillingness for the constitution of a tribunal to resolve Mahanadi issue leading to repeated adjournments following which the Speaker had called for an all-party meeting.
