Odisha High Court stays Nuapada NAC election

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today put a stay on poll to the Nuapada Notified Area Council (NAC) after receiving a petition over ward reservation.

Hearing the petition filed by one Mahesh Nial challenging the Nuapada Collector’s notification on ward delimitation and seat reservation, a bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi stayed the election besides issuing a notice to the State Government, Nuapada Collector and State Election Commission in this regard.

The next hearing of the case has been posted to March 12.

Notably, the State Election Commission had earlier announced that notification for elections to Notified Area Councils of Hindol, Attabira and Nuapada will be issued on March 9 (tomorrow) and polling to be held on April 3.

However, the notification for Nuapada NAC poll will not be issued tomorrow following the High Court’s directive.
