Cuttack, Oct 14: Unprecedented in the history of Odisha High Court, the High Court Bar Association Tuesday in a unanimous decision decided to boycott the court of the Chief Justice.
The decision was taken at the general council meeting of the High Court Bar Association held at 1.15 PM on Tuesday following which advocates did not attend court of the Chief Justice after the afternoon recess to conduct cases. Hundreds of lawyers which included senior advocates opined in favour of boycotting the court of the Chief Justice D H Waghela.
Members at the general council meeting complained of facing different problems while conducting cases in the Chief Justice’s bench.
Advocates had been expressing resentment over it for quite some time and the matter had been discussed at some earlier meetings. Since the matter could not be resolved in the earlier meetings, a meeting of the general council of the Association was called on Tuesday, which unanimously decided to boycott the court of Chief Justice.
On the other hand, hearings could not be conducted in the benches of some Justices as they were called by the Chief Justice for discussion on the new development.
Notably, Justice D H Waghela has been functioning as the Chief Justice of Odisha High Court since June 4 this year.
