Cuttack, Jul 23:
Odisha High Court today deferred the hearing on the bail plea of BJD MP Ramchandra Hansda and Seashore CMD Prashant Dash till July 30.
Adjudicating over the bail application moved by the two accused in the chit fund scam, Judge Sangam Kumar Sahoo deferred the hearing till July 30.
In April this year, the Khordha District and Sessions Judge Court had rejected the bail plea of Prashant Dash, the CMD of the Seashore Group of Companies.
A preliminary charge sheet against the Seashore group of companies in the mega Odisha chit fund scam case was filed at the special CBI court in Bhubaneswra on March 7. Following this, Dash has moved High Court seeking bail.
On the other hand, the High Court had allowed suspended BJD MP from Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha seat Ramchandra Hansda to attend Parliament in March this year for a day while remaining in the custody of CBI.
Hansda had petitioned the High Court that he be granted permission to attend Parliament to retain his membership as the law provides for declaring a seat vacant if the member fails to attend its sitting for 60 days at a stretch.
Besides, the court also completed the hearing on the bail plea of Seashore Group of Companies Director Pravat Kumar Dash and reserved its verdict. Notably, Dash is the younger brother of Seashore Group CMD Prashant Kumar Dash. Pravat was arrested by CBI in January this year in connection with the probe into the multi-crore rupee chit fund scam in the state.
Justice Sahoo also adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of former BJP MLA Hitesh Bagarti to July 30. Bagarti was arrested in November last year in connection with Nabadiganta chit fund scam.
