Bhubaneswar, Nov 5:
Odisha unit of BJP today accused Biju Janata Dal led State Government of hijacking Union Government schemes and presenting them as its own to mislead the public before the upcoming panchayat polls and gain political mileage for Biju Janata Dal.
“The Chief Minister doesn’t have the minimum courtesy to give due credits to the Union Government for funding the projects in the state. They are issuing advertisements to hijack the schemes as their own. After 16 years in the seat of power, we expect a little change in his character,” said Odisha BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan.
BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy, on the other hand, saw no fault in the advertisements.
“The Center doesn’t have any fund of its own. They collect their share from the states. Odisha, as a state, has given a lot of money and continues to do so from mining and other sources. They are not giving away from their wallets,” shot back Satpathy.
It may be mentioned here that the State Government had today issued several advertisements in print media on signing of MoU with STPI for four new software parks in the state. However, it had not given due credits to the Centre.
A day before, it had issued advertisements on establishment of new medical colleges in the state without making any reference to the central contribution to these projects. According to BJP, the Center is partly funding these projects.
Such allegations against BJD are nothing new. The party was earlier accused of hijacking Union Government’s subsidies and presenting it as Rs 1 rice scheme of the State Government.
Besides, painting 108 ambulances in party colours and using State Government emblem in violation against the established norms caused quite a stir forcing the state to redo the designs on the ambulances.
