Odisha health services will get a shot in the arm with 92 more new 108 ambulances being pressed into service in the non coastal districts in the state. These ambulances will be ply on road from July this year.
According to sources, National Health Mission has asked for 92 more ambulances to be added in the state.
The additions will take the total number of 108 ambulances in the state to 512.
For every 2 lakh residents there should be one ambulance, this has been instructed by the National Health Mission.
On such areas in Odisha where the ratio of residents to ambulances is less these new vehicles will be pressed into service.
The 108 ambulance services in the state are run by Ziqitza Health Service (ZHS). In last 3 years have transported around 2 lakh pregnant women and 3,000 children have benefited from its services.
Meanwhile, health services across the state have been hit after the 108 ambulance workers state wide strike has entered the second day today.
