Bhubaneswar, Jul 21:
Commissionerate Police will soon declare Sunil Meher, whose name is synonymous with flesh trade in Odisha, a ‘habitual offender’ and press stringent sections under Indian Penal Code (IPC) against him to put an end to his illegal activities.
Talking to OST, Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said the Commissionerate Police have already arrested Meher three times after he joined as Commissioner in the city. He was also arrested by Kolkata police a few months ago, but soon resumed his old activities after gritting bail, he added.
“He has been arrested several times by the police in sex trade cases, but that has not stopped him from returning to his old trade again and again. That is why we are planning to take strong action against him this time so that he doesn’t get a chance to commit the crime in future,” said the Commissioner.
Meher is active both in the city and in neighbouring states for the last 4-5 years. He supplies sex workers and trafficked girls to prostitution places operating in various locations in the state and earns lakhs in the process.
The Commissioner further said as new guest houses are mushrooming in the city, the kingpins and pimps prefers these place to operate their illegal business.
Dr Sharma said he has instructed IICs of all concerned police stations under the Commissionerate Police to keep an eye on new guest houses and residential areas where flesh trade could be going on.
