Bhubaneswar, May 31:
Commissionerate Police today arrested a known Odisha film producer for allegedly molesting a 38-year-old woman from the Saliasahi slum under Nayapalli Police limits.
The arrested film producer, identified as Himadri Sekhar Mohapatra (40), hails from the Old Town area under the Lingaraj Police limits, who had financed two popular Ollywood films – Bachelor and Balunga Toka.
The police have slapped sections 354 (A), 323, 294, 506 of IPC against the accused and forwarded him to a local court here today.
Mohapatra was sent to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
Sources in the Mahila Police station said the incident took place on March 14 evening when Mohapatra had offered a lift to the victim while she was waiting for a bus near the Nayapalli square.
The woman took the offer and got into Mohapatra’s car only to realise she had been trapped. The film producer allegedlyacted smart with her and molested her. She resisted the sexual assault and asked the car to stop. Scared by her shrieks, Mohapatra asked his driver to stop the car at Acharya Vihar and allowed the woman to get off.
The woman then went to the Mahila police station and lodged a complaint against Mohapatra, who disappeared as soon as he learnt of the police case.
On Friday after being tipped-off by a reliable source about his presence in his residence, the police conducted a raid and arrested him, Mahila police station sources said.
