A group of students of a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar had come to Puri this morning. After their arrival, they had gone to the sea beach for a bath.

While they were bathing near the Swargadwara area, one of the friends, Abhigyan Alok, a third-year student and a native of Ranchi in Jharkhand was swept away by the strong current of the sea.

At this, his friend, Abhishek Kumar, a native of Bokaro in Jharkhand, tried to rescue him but got drowned in the process.

Following information, some local fishermen dived into the sea and pulled out both the friends who were rushed to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors declared Alok as brought dead.

The condition of Abhishek was stated to be normal, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, Baliapanda police have informed the family members of the deceased.
