Rayagada, Feb 26:
The Congress today withdrew its six-day agitation in Odisha’s Rayagada town after the intervention of the district collector.
Taking the initiative on behalf of the district administration, Jagannath Mohanty, the new collector, assured the Congress workers that the district administration would provide all help to the Crime Branch team in its investigation into the suicide of Dhaneswar Prusty on February 17.
“I have asked my staff that the district administration would not put any pressure on them if the Crime Branch calls them for interrogation as witnesses to the incident. They should be free and fair in their statements to the state investigating team”, Mohanty told reporters later.
The District Congress Committee had staged an indefinite dharna in front of the collector’s office since February 20 demanding the arrest of former collector Sashibhusan Padhi and PA, ITDA, Gorachand Gamang as they were responsible for the death of Prusty, who, in his suicide note, had stated.
Besides, the party had also demanded a CBI probe into the suicide case stating that the state government has deliberately handed over the case to the Crime Branch to shield the culprits which is evident in the Itishree Pradhan murder case in November 2013.
