Odisha-based director Amiya Patnaik’s biopic on social activist Tulasi Munda has been shortlisted to be screened at the 21st edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) beginning from this Saturday.
The biopic on social activist Tulasi Munda—‘Tulasi Apa’—has found place in the Indian Select category.
The eight-day international film festival scheduled to start from 14th November to 21st November will feature 149 movies from 61 countries in 15 categories in 12 locations.
The movie, which encapsulates the essence of her life, enumerates her struggle and achievements.
The movie, which is Odisha’s first biopic, has been produced by Anupam Patnaik. The cast of the film includes: Barsha Nayak, Madhusmita, Lochani Bag, Premanjan Parida, Mamata Panda and Sujit Paikray.
The film under the banner of AP Productions has been shot at various locations in Keonjhar, where the renowned activist and Padmashree awardee was born.
In the Indian Select category, 12 films including the ‘Tulasi Apa’ will be screened. The movies are: Lokabandhoo, Pagdi The Honour, I am not a he but she, Valiya Chirakula Pakshikal, Ain, Elizabeth Ekadashi, Panhala, Ghar Aaja Jeetu, Oattathoodhuvan-1854, Sankal and Last Page.
The KIFF is organised by the Kolkata Chalachitra Utsav Society with financial and logistic support from the Goverment of West Bengal.
From 2014, the Kolkata International Film Festival has been a competitive festival. This year for the second time, the Royal Bengal Trophy will be awarded to the best film and the best director; the competition focuses on films directed by woman.
The cash award for the Best Film is the single largest cash award at any international film festival now.
