A special Vigilance court in Odisha capital today convicted a husband wife duo in a disproportionate assets case.
The court awarded a jail term of three years to the then Executive Engineer in Rural Works Department Jagannath Mohini and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh. Similarly, the court sentenced his wife Renubala Mohini to a year’s imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The Vigilance department had slapped charges under section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, 420, 120 (B) of IPC.
The vigilance sleuths had conducted raids on the residence of Jagannath Mohini while he was posted as Executive Engineer in Rural Works Department in Koraput in 2005.
The anti-corruption wing officials had unearthed properties to the tune of Rs 35. 45 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Notably, Jagannath was last year promoted to Rayagada (R&B) Division-II.
