Baleswar, Jul 14:
The District and Sessions Judge Court in Odisha’s Baleswar district today rejected the bail application of Ishwar Behera, the casual cameraman of Interim Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea arrested on charges of spying for Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
After hearing the arguments, the Court had reserved its verdict yesterday.
Behera’s counsel had argued that his client should be granted bail as the Crime Branch had failed to submit a charge sheet against Ishwar Behera even after 120 days of his arrest. Besides, the allegations levelled against Ishwar are baseless, he pointed out.
The public prosecutor argued that there were several money transfers to Behera’s bank account and he had passed on secret defence information to ISI agents.
Ishwar was arrested on January 23 this year on charges of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency and is presently lodged in jail after he was denied bail by the Baleswar SDJM Court on February 6.
Ishwar, 35, a native of Kantipur village under Baisinga police limits in Mayurbhanj district, was picked up from his home after a joint investigation by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Odisha Intelligence Wing and local police.
A case was registered under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 121 A (treason) against him at the Chandipur police station.
