Baleswar, Jul 24:
The District and Sessions Judge court here today rejected the plea of Rajashree Mohanty, son of former Odisha minister Raghunath Mohanty, to drop domestic violence charges levelled by his estranged wife Barsa Swony Choudhury.
Hearing the case, the court rejected the petition filed by Rajashree and ruled that the charges will remain. A similar plea field by the petitioner in the lower court has already been rejected.
In the dowry torture case, Barsa had levelled charges of domestic violence against him in her FIR filed with Town Police station in 2013.
Besides, charges were also slapped against Rajashree under sections 498 (a) (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 448 (trespass), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of the IPC and section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act (penalty for dowry).
On July 14, the Odisha High Court had turned down an appeal by Barsa seeking directions for expediting hearing in the dowry torture case filed by her in the Baleswar family court.
