Odisha court convicts ex-Market Inspector for graft

Special Vigilance Court today convicted Ramsingh Hembram, former Market Inspector of Koksara block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district for misappropriation of rice worth around Rs 17 lakh.

Special Vigilance Judge, Bhawanipatna convicted Ramsingh Hembram and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 16, 99, 239, in default of payment of fine, to undergo RI for six more months for the offence under section 409 of IPC.

Further, the court sentenced him to undergo RI for three years and pay a fine of Rs 1000, in default of payment of fine; to undergo RI for a month for the offence under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The substantive sentences shall run concurrently, the court said.

Notably, a case was registered against Hembram for misappropriation of 1380.13 quintal of custom milling rice worth Rs 17, 00, 348.

Hembram is presently posted as Assistant Civil Supplies Officer (ACSO), Rairakhol.
